Stars’ and Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges coach and trainer Keri Sanchez has another title.
Sanchez will make her debut as a defender for the Los Angeles Sol in their match against FC Gold Pride on Sunday, May 24, just over a week after signing a one-year contract with the club.
Sanchez began contact with the general manager of the Sol on Friday, May 8, and then received a call and invitation from the coach to train the next day. Less than a week later, on Friday May 15, she signed a one-year contract.
"I had a mix of emotions upon getting the call. I was excited for the chance to play and nervous about whether I was up to the challenge,” she said.
Sanchez said she is looking forward to playing and learning and hopes to see the Sol in the Championship.
“I am working hard at getting back to playing and defending at such a fast pace,” she said. “I am trying to work hard at practice, learn their system and see where I can contribute.”
Sanchez trains and coaches the Star’s U-13 silver team and is the head coach for women’s soccer at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges. She says neither of her current coaching commitments will be jeopardized.
“I am fortunate to have the support from the colleges and athletic department so nothing is affected on that front. I am still holding my camp (this summer) and will miss just a couple of sessions, but will be around for most of it,” she said.
