The Claremont Stars Soccer Club was formed in 1972 by Otto Rieger and Dieter Dammeier. From that beginning the club has grown continuously over the years, evolving into one of the top clubs in Southern California. With an emphasis on player development, the clubs' results in National Cup Competition has been impressive in recent years. The Stars were one of the first clubs in So. Calif. to hire a professional Director of Coaching and staff the entire club with qualified professional coaches. This has resulted in domination of the older boys age groups in National Cup since 1996, as well as numerous call-ups to various National Teams with both boys and girls.
The club recently add Carlos Juarez to head up the coaching staff. Carlos has instituted a development program for all ages that will ensure the technical and tactical knowledge of every player in the club. Future projects include the implementation of an Academy of Excellence and a Summer Camp.
The Claremont Stars Summer Classic youth soccer tournament was first held in 1991. We've been fortunate to host teams from Russia, Canada, Germany and Northern Ireland as well as teams from throughout the USA. The most recent event featured 189 teams over 3 days.
For the past 6 years we have been a partner in an exchange program with Belfast Together, a cross community project based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The program is working towards breaking down prejudices and segregation in Northern Ireland. Each summer, two
teams of boys, made up from a cross section of beliefs, travel to Claremont where they are paired up and placed in local homes for the duration of their visit. The teams compete in our annual Summer Classic International Tournament, and become acclimated to the diversity of tolerance of everyday life in California.
