Claremont Stars Soccer Club

The Stars, who are currently fourth in the Bronze Central league standings, won their pool and joined league champion FC Golden State Black as the only Bronze Central teams to advance to the next round. The Stars used strong defensive efforts, highlighted by the outstanding play of goalkeeper Kyle Delcampo, to defeat CVU Blue of the Bronze Beta league 1-0 and force a 1-1 tie with Bronze North league champion LAFC White.

The Stars will move on to the second round next Sunday at the San Bernadino soccer complex where they will face Silver Elite level Fram CQ and Silver level Beach B96 Black.

Capping an amazing weekend of effort and hard nosed defense, the Stars BU12 team withstood a last second penalty kick by La Mesa Matrix to hold on to win the championship game 1-0. Winning three 1-0 games during the tournament, the Stars defense of Clayton Winter, Jared Pischke, Nick Knapp, and goal keeper Kyle Delcampo finished the weekend unscored upon. The Stars' own scoring punch came from Ibraheem Hafuda, Will Cena, Cole Albert, Joseph Rode, and Max Fancher who all had goals. It was a complete team effort for the Stars as Chris Thurman, Robert Bartelt, Antonio Ayala, Shane Sturdivant,  and Gabriel Perez-Negron added tough support on both the defensive and offensive sides of the field. With the tournament win, the young Stars are very excited about their prospects in the upcoming Coast Soccer League.
